MLB Designated Hitter Rule
- Amateur (5.11(a) & (b))

- Senior Legion (5.11(a) only)

There are 5 options for DH Notes:
1. Straight 9: All levels Option 1: Easy…thank you!
2. DH for pitcher only: Amateur, Senior Legion Option 2: Teams may substitute for either pitcher or DH without affecting the role of the DH. If the pitcher moves to another defensive position, the DH role is terminated. The DH may remain in the lineup as a position player, if another player is removed as the pitcher will then move into that position in the lineup.
3. DH for any player: High School, Junior Legion, Class A, VFW Option 3: If a substitute bats or runs for the DH, that player becomes the new DH. The DH and the player for which the DH is batting cannot be on the field defensively at the same time.
4. Player/DH: High School Option 4: DH is terminated if substitute bats or runs for the player/DH (offensive substitution). DH remains the DH if a substitute enters to play defense for the player/DH (defensive substitution)
5.Pitcher/DH: Amateur Option 5: A substitute from the bench for either the pitcher or DH does not terminate the DH role. However, if a player moves from a position on the field to pitcher or the pitcher moves to a defensive position, the role of DH is terminated.
